Pfizer and BioNTech are accused of violating Moderna's patents in the development of their vaccine.

The lawsuit will be filed in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts and the regional court of Dsseldorf in Germany.

Moderna believes that Pfizer and BioNTech copied their inventions and have continued to use them without permission.

The Pfizer/bioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was developed by both Pfizer and BioNTech, according to a Pfizer spokesman.

In their statement, BioNTech said they plan to vigorously defend themselves against all accusations.

The company values and respects the intellectual property rights of others and is confident in its intellectual property. After seeing the historic accomplishments of a vaccine like COMIRNATY® other companies make allegations that a successful product could potentially violate their intellectual property rights.

The companies are accused of copying features that Moderna claims are critical to the success of the vaccine. A chemical modification to help avoid undesirable immune responses to mRNA is one of the features.

The company isn't looking for an injunction to stop Pfizer and BioNTech from selling their vaccine

Moderna's chief executive officer said that the company was able to produce a safe and highly effective vaccine in record time after the Pandemic hit. Moderna is using its technology platform to develop medicines that could treat and prevent infectious diseases, as well as cardiovascular diseases and rare forms of cancer.

Moderna started work on a vaccine against the seasonal flu in 2021.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pfizer-bioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine has been administered in over 300 million doses in the US. Moderna has had over 200 million injections.
