It was announced Friday that Allen Greene will step away from his position as athletic director.

According to sources, the decision was made after the two sides negotiated terms of the departure of the player.

The decision to step away from auburn athletics is not an easy one, but it is the right time for me to begin the next step in my career I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish together.

Is that correct? The best is yet to come for auburn. I'm confident that we leave auburn athletics with more strength than we found.

It's rare for an athletic director at a major conference school to enter the last five months of his contract. According to sources,Auburn was likely to wait until the end of the football season to make a decision on whether or not to keep him.

According to sources, that led to an exit strategy being found by the man.

The school's first black athletic director was hired in January of last year. Two College World Series in baseball, a Final Four in men's basketball, and significant growth in both capital projects and facilities were some of the things that happened during Greene's time at auburn. A $92 million football facility is being built by the University of auburn.

There are still issues in the football program. The school decided to part ways with Malzahn in December of 2020 because of the reputation of the school.

Bryan Harsin's tenure has been shrouded by an inquiry by the university. The inquiry has been viewed as a way for the school to fire Harsin. Harsin has been fighting the damage done by the inquiry.

Harsin is expected to be the coach this season, and it was assumed that he would not be the athletic director to make a decision on his future.

The university president said that Allen arrived with vision, passion and experience to elevate auburn athletics to the next level. Allen has proven to be an asset to auburn, enhancing our athletics programs and facilities, and has been dedicated to our student-athletes, to integrity and to our university. Over the past four and a half years, we're thankful for his commitment.

As an assistant AD at Ole Miss and then the athletic director at Buffalo, he worked his way up the college athletics ladder and developed a strong reputation in the industry.
