At least for a while, House of the Dragon is here to stay, as evidenced by the fact that the show only just aired.

Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin's House of the Dragon will return for a second season. House of the Dragon was praised by an executive vice president of programming for its ability to tell compelling stories.

A show that has already established itself as a must-see-TV was delivered by the cast and crew. A big thank you to George, Ryan, and Sapochnik for guiding us. The epic saga of House Targaryen will be brought to life in the second season.

There was no way that the House of the Dragon would be covered in a single season. In order to appeal to fans of the original series, a lot of season 1 was created to echo Game of Throne. What will determine House of the Dragon's success is how much new energy it brings to its story that isn't in the source material. There is no word on when House of the Dragon's second season will start or when it will premiere.
