Local law enforcement officers are seen in front of the home of former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida on August 9, 2022.Local law enforcement officers are seen in front of the home of former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida on August 9, 2022.

The affidavit used to get a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago was heavily redacted.

According to the affidavit, the FBI had probable cause to believe that records containing classified national defense information would be located at the Palm Beach, Florida, residence.

The affidavit states that there is probable cause to believe that obstruction of justice will be found at Trump's home.

The DOJ objected to the release of the key document because it contained sensitive information about the criminal investigation into Trump. One day before the affidavit was to be made public, the judge accepted the DOJ's redactions.

According to the affidavit, the government believed the search of Trump's resort home would turn up evidence of illegality.

The shipment of records from the White House to Mar-a-Lago was the subject of a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. When a president leaves office, his records must be turned over to the archives.

The search warrant was revealed by the DOJ less than a week after the raid.

The FBI took at least 20 boxes of items, including many sets of highly classified documents, according to a property receipt that was made public by the DOJ.

Last week the government argued against releasing the affidavit.

If the affidavit were to be made public, it would serve as a road map to the government's investigation.

The government was ordered to make redactions to the court by Thursday. Later that day, the judge accepted the DOJ's redactions.

The Mar-a-Lago raid is part of a probe that implicates national security, according to the government.

Trump has claimed that he was the victim of a political attack by the Biden administration that was carried out against him in the race for the White House.

The former president asked a federal judge to stop the DOJ from looking at the documents until a third party reviews them.

Trump said in a social media post that the political hacks and thieves had no right to storm Mar-a-Lago and steal everything in sight.
