The service that connects drivers and commuters is shutting down. The company says that the service is shutting down because of the changing commute patterns caused by the Pandemic.
The service was first launched in San Francisco and has since expanded to other countries. The company launched a separate app for car pooling.
Driving behaviors on the roads have changed, and the proportion of travel and errand drives has surpassed commute times, according to a Waze spokesman. We want to help cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, and cost by doubling down on our work. We will be retiring the carpool service in order to focus on better supporting drivers on the road.
The goal of the app was to connect people to each other on their way to save money and fuel. Riders and drivers can use the app to find their own friends based on their profiles, star ratings, number of mutual friends and more. The best matches would be those closest to a preferred route or a co-worker on the same shift.
Waze Carpool was not meant to be a way for drivers to make money. It was seen as a way for drivers to give rides to commuters who were traveling the same route as them for a small fee. HOV lanes could be used by drivers to get to their workplace more quickly and reduce the number of cars on the road.
As a result of the Pandemic that has led to more people working from home, Waze Carpool probably no longer had a steady stream of commuters to rely on.
We are grateful to the Carpool community for sharing drives and working together to take cars off the road.
It will focus on finding ways to bring together a global community to share real time insights and help each other outsmart traffic. Better support for drivers on the road is one of the things the company wants to work on.
As the world recovers from the COVID-19 epidemic, people are driving more than ever before, and it is seeing more miles on the road. The company says that this is as much as 15% higher in the United States than before the Pandemic.
