The University of Connecticut women's basketball team added another point guard on Friday after losing one of their top players to a knee injury.

The school announced that In's Bettencourt will join the team as a freshman.

Ins is a great point guard. She likes to distribute the ball and can shoot the ball. She's used to playing in the European style of ball movement and ball screens. She's a great competitor and a tough child. I'm happy that we found her.

Bettencourt is one of three players in the freshman class.

Nika Mhl is expected to start at point guard while Bueckers rehabilitates her left knee injury.

According to the announcement by the University of Connecticut, Bueckers suffered the injury in a pickup basketball game and had a torn anterior cruciateeum. She missed a lot of time last year because of the knee injury.

Bettencourt played for Clube Unio Sportiva in the Azores and recently led Portugal to the championship game in the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship.

She is the fifth international player on the team.
