Kevin Magnussen's car broke down on the run between the La Source hairpin and theEau Rouge sweepers and it took a red-flag period to recover it.

Verstappen was quicker than everyone else for most of the session, after running soft tires early on, before being overtaken by the Ferraris.

Leclerc was going to go top before he slid at the final chicane.

Russell was 0.858 seconds off the pace while trying a significant aerodynamic upgrade and Verstappen was 0.217 seconds off the pace.

The session ended with Lance Stroll fifth from Alex Albon and Daniel Ricciardo, who will leave McLaren at the end of the season.

Lewis Hamilton was ninth fastest, followed by Red Bull'sSergio Perez.
