The Capital One Venture X rewards credit card is a great card to use.

There is an excellent welcome bonus, as well as a $300 annual travel credit, 10,000 anniversary bonus miles, Priority Pass membership, access to Capital One Lounges, and more. I was approved for this card immediately after applying.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Venture X is the amount of money it makes for authorized users. I have never seen a credit card that has such valuable and useful perks for authorized users.

How many authorized users can you add to Capital One Venture X?

Four authorized users can be added to the Capital One Venture X. Adding authorized users is necessary if you want to make the most of this card.

How much does it cost to add Capital One Venture X authorized users?

Capital One Venture X card members can add up to four authorized users for free. If you add four friends or family members to your account, you won't have to pay anything more than the standard fee for the primary cardmember.

You might think that authorized users aren't getting many benefits if it's not costing anything. It's wrong. That is one of the reasons this card is so special.

What benefits do Capital One Venture X authorized users receive?

There are up to four complimentary authorized users on the Venture X.

There is not a single credit card that is open to new applicants and that allows you to add authorized users for free.

Capital One Venture X authorized users receive additional perks.

• Hertz President’s Circle status, offering rental car upgrades and much more
• The same 2-10x miles per dollar spent on the Capital One Venture X as the primary cardmember; of course the primary cardmember is responsible for paying the bill, but this can be useful for maximizing rewards for family members as well (also note that spending from authorized users counts toward the welcome bonus spending requirement)
• The same purchase protection offered on account of the Capital One Venture X being a Visa Infinite Card, including trip delay and lost baggage coverage

What benefits don’t Capital One Venture X authorized users receive?

Capital One Venture X authorized users don't get perks.

• There’s no additional $300 travel credit for authorized users, though spending on an authorized user’s card could count toward the credit
• There’s no additional TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit for authorized users, though a fee charged to an authorized user’s card could be reimbursed
• There are no additional 10,000 anniversary bonus miles for authorized users

You can easily add Capital One Venture X authorized users to your card. Adding authorized users is one of the first options. At the end of the application, you will be asked if you want to add more card members.

You can add authorized users after you open your account if you need more time to think about who you want to add. Click on the "I Want To..." button at the top of the page if you want to log in.

Under the "Control Your Card" section, there is a window that will prompt you to add an account user.

Select the access level you want for the user.

• You can designate someone as an “Account Manager,” in which case they will receive their own online log-in and can help you manage the account
• You can designate someone as an “Authorized User,” in which case they’d only get their own card, but wouldn’t get an online log-in, so couldn’t in any way manage the account

You will be responsible for all the charges of your authorized users even if you choose one of the options.

When you choose the type of authorized user you want to add, you will need to give some basic information about them, including their first and last name, phone number, and social security number. If you only want to add someone as an authorized user, you can add a social security number.

Adding authorized users is a couple of things to note.

• If an authorized user wants to pick up the Capital One Venture X as a primary cardmember in the future, they’d still be eligible, including for the welcome bonus
• If authorized users are concerned about their Chase 5/24 status, note that them receiving a card as an authorized user could count as a further credit card toward their 5/24 limit

Does it make sense to add Capital One Venture X authorized users?

Adding authorized users to the Capital One Venture X is a good idea. Four authorized users will get airport lounge access and more at no extra cost.

Everyone will be happy to be given unlimited airport lounge access with priority pass and plaza premium. It's even better for those based at DFW, DEN, and IAD since they should have Capital One Lounges by some point in the future.

Capital One allows authorized users to be added to the card for free. This is compared to other premium cards that offer Priority Pass memberships.

It is not possible to get those perks for authorized users.

Why you might not want to add Capital One Venture X authorized users…

Adding authorized users to the Capital One Venture X will not cost you anything. An example of why that might not be the best option for those of us who love maximizing value is given.

Ford applied for his own card instead of adding him to my card. What's the reason? Venture X is a better option than breakeven for the primary cardmember. The Venture X has an annual fee, but the card offers more.

• A $300 annual travel credit through Capital One Travel
• 10,000 anniversary bonus miles; I value Capital One miles at 1.7 cents each, so to me that’s worth $170

The card gives me $470 worth of value every year with a $395 annual fee. I think there is value in having people get their own card instead of being added as an authorized user.

You can gift lounge access to a bunch of family members and friends if you pick up your own card as a primary cardmember. I took that approach.

Bottom line

There are a lot of things to like about the Capital One Venture X. You can add up to four authorized users to the card for free.

Priority Pass membership, access to Capital One and Plaza Premium Lounges, and top-notch purchase protection are just some of the perks authorized users get.
