It's been a long time since vegan people got their hands on a chocolate covered wafer.

The plant-based version of one of the world's most popular chocolate bars will be available in 15 European countries from Friday.

The vegan version uses a rice-based formula instead of milk. It took two years to develop, making it one of the biggest launches of a vegan alternative.

Four in 10 consumers say they are interested in moving to a more plant-based diet, according to the head of confectioners for Europe. There is a significant market in the area.

The vegan chocolate market is currently worth $533 million and is expected to more than double in the next 10 years.

Vegan Foray

Big brands are following in the footsteps of the small labels that started the alternative to chocolate. Lindt & Spruengli AG sells bars made from oat milk under the Hello label. The Plant Bar, a vegan version of Dairy Milk, was released by Cadbury last year.

Mars Inc.'s vegan version of its chocolate bars were stopped from being stocked by Britain's largest grocery store, Tesco.

The Milkybar Wowsomes, which had 30% less sugar, was pulled from the shelves due to weak demand.

Gabler said that the start of 300 tons with room to produce more was a good sign for the new product. Tens of thousands of tons are produced annually for mainstream products in Europe. Mainstream production of chocolate will take place in Germany, where there is greater capacity.

Retail Pricing

During the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades, it is not good news that the regular version of KitKat V is more expensive. It is more expensive to produce due to pricier ingredients and the need for strict cleaning on production lines.

Gabler said that during the trial last year, the vegan version was sold at 90 pence in some shops, compared with 60 pence or 70 pence for the non- vegan version. She said that the company is looking at ways to reduce the gap.

The rice-based formula for the non- vegan version is familiar to fans of the non- vegan version.

It is challenging. The experts worked to make it as close as possible.
