In 2026, AUDI will make its debut in Formula 1

The chairman of the AUDI board said on Friday that the German car company had registered as a power unit manufacturer in F1.

It's not clear if it will run its own team or just supply engines.

It's in the genes of AUDI. Duesmann said that they have always been very active and successful in their activities.

We want to keep this success story going.

Duesmann said the decision had been made because of new rules that increase the electrical component in engines.

A team will be announced by the end of the year.

It is expected to take a controlling interest in the Swiss-based team, currently racing as Alfa Romeo, and enter as a full manufacturer.

"This is a major moment for our sport that shows the huge strength we have as a global platform that continues to grow," Domenicali said.

The move to sustainable-fuelled hybrid engines in 2026 is a future solution for the automotive industry. We are all looking forward to seeing the logo on the grid and will be hearing more information from them in the future.

Mohammed Benyem said the decision was a milestone.

According to Duesmann, the increased proportion of power from the hybrid part of the engine was in line with the move towards being an electric manufacturer.

F1's budget cap, which was first introduced in 2021, makes it very attractive, as well as the fact that F1 will go carbon neutral by 2030.

Changes will be made to the engines used since the beginning of the year.

More than 50% of the power will be supplied by the hybrid element and the complicated MGU-H will be abandoned. The carbon taken out of the atmosphere is what makes them.

Volkswagen is expected to enter F1 in 2026 as an engine partner.

Duesmann wouldn't confirm that, but he did say that the two operations would be completely different if it entered.
