Shia LaBeouf said he became a member of the Roman Catholic Church after converting to Christianity.

LaBeouf revealed his conversion in an interview.

LaBeouf lived with the Franciscan Capuchin friars in order to better understand the mystic St. Padre Pio, who he will portray in the movie.

LaBeouf said that he was at the lowest point in his life after a series of scandals. He joined a variety of faith groups to fight his thoughts of suicide and helplessness.

There was a gun on the table. Shia said in the interview that he was outside. When all this happened, I didn't want to live. It was the kind of shame that you forget how to breathe. You're not sure where to go. It's not possible to get a taco outside.

He said he wanted to hold on.

"DUMBED DOWN CATHEOLICISM HAS NOT HELPED EVANGELIZATION", said Bishop Robert Baron.

The actor said that his mindset going into the film was more about his career than God.

There had been a reach-out. I didn't have a place to go. The train stopped at this location. LaBeouf said in the interview that there was no other choice.

He said that God used his ego to draw him to Himself. I was drawing me away from the world. All of it was happening at the same time. If I didn't think I was going to save my career, I wouldn't have driven up to the monastery.

LaBeouf felt tricked by God while researching and performing the role.

SHIA LABEOUF was fired from her job to keep Florence safe.

There was a switch when I arrived. It was similar to Three- Card Monte. The actor said that it was like someone tricked him into it. It's in a good way. I was not able to see it. I wasn't able to see it because I was so close. I think it's different now that time has passed.

To pull him out of a dark time in his life, LaBeouf said he needed to talk through his feelings and learn about the Christian understanding of sin and forgiveness.

The actor said that he didn't feel worthy of pursuing piety until he met people who had struggled morally and felt safe.

The bishop says that Aupair is "repugnant" and that he feels his faith.

LaBeouf was accused of stealing a man's hat in a fight that turned physical. He was sued over his alleged abusive behavior by his ex- girlfriend.

One of LaBeouf's ex-girlfriends claimed that he was abusive towards her.

LaBeouf told the bishop that seeing other people who have sinned beyond anything he could ever imagine gave him hope. It made me feel like I had permission when I heard the stories of other depraved people who had found their way in this.

Padre Pio was born in Italy in the late 19th century. He became famous for showing crucifixion wounds on Jesus. He was canonized in 2002 after being beatified by Pope John Paul II. The religious figure was the subject of a short film by Ferrara.

Pio's stigmata, which is said to have appeared and healed throughout his life, has not been given a conclusive explanation.

The Franciscan Capuchin friars begged LaBeouf not to get it wrong after learning more about Pio. The only one we have is him.

The actor stressed during the interview that he is still very new to the faith and not an expert on different aspects of the religion. The friars were unsure if he had ever been christened.

I didn't know I was a member of the church. I had beenbaptized in my life, but I didn't remember it. He said that his uncle had given him the Trinitarian formula.

The traditional form of the Catholic mass was key to LaBeouf's conversion and his performance in the movie.

LaBeouf didn't want to use an Italian accent. LaBeouf said that the movie had become too personal and too important to be kept out of sight.

While we were practicing Latin Mass, I was having genuine emotional experiences, and aside from the fact that Pio's accent wouldn't have matched Italian anyway, it felt like that would take me out of this thing that felt very personal.
