A rescue dog has gone from a life of animal testing and inhumane breeding to becoming one of the world's most pampered pets.
The president and founder of the Beagle Freedom Project said it was strange. The door was open when they walked in. She knew that these were her people and they knew that she was their dog.
Thousands of beagles were saved from a Virginia facility where they were being bred for sale to testing laboratories. The owners of the facility, Envigo and its parent company, Inotiv, decided to close it down after receiving dozens of animal cruelty complaints.
The nearly 4,000 dogs rescued will lead happier lives than they would have if they stayed at the facility, but very few will end up in the homes of royalty.

The royal couple met their new family member at the beagle rescue's headquarters in Valley Village. She knew she would be a great caretakers for the movie because she had specifically requested to adopt an old dog from a troubled past.

Melina Shirley, an employee of the beagle rescue, brought the couple and their new dog to the back house, where she found a stuffed animal. After she was rescued from the facility, she bought a toy for herself.
"Prince Harry said, 'I knew it,'" She's got her toy. She can be taken home.
Thousands of beagles will need homes after being rescued.
There are 27 beagles that need help in Georgia.
Five dogs and a puppy were abandoned at an animal shelter.
