The National Archives and Records Administration asked former President Donald Trump to return any missing White House documents he may have taken with him, according to a new report.

According to a CNN report, Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, argued to Trump that the White House files belonged to him and that he should not have allowed the National Archives and Records Administration to "strong-arm" him into returning them.

A source told CNN that the moment Tom got in the boss' ear, it was downhill from there.

According to CNN, Fitton argued that the documents from Clinton's time in office belonged to the former president.

Judicial Watch and Fitton did not reply to the request.

The NARA said in February that it retrieved 15 boxes from Mar-a-Lago in January. The sources told CNN that Fitton told Trump not to cooperate if NARA came back with more files.

The documents that stayed behind at Mar-a-Lago belonged to Trump, according to sources.

The Department of Justice referred the matter after the National Archives found classified documents in the boxes. On August 8, the FBI carried out a search warrant for Trump's private club and home in Florida to get more information.

In an interview with CNN, Fitton said that he had argued that the documents belonged to the former president.
