The first five star hotel in the state of Florida has begun taking reservations. I am more interested in this than most, because I still go back to visit my family in Florida, even after I moved to another state. The new property has a lot to offer.

Basics of the new Tampa EDITION

The EDITION will open in a few weeks, since it is now accepting reservations. The opening of the hotel has been delayed because it was supposed to open in late 2021.

Marriott's modern premium brand is called EDITION. Think of it as a modern take on Ritz-Carlton, aimed at a younger crowd. EDITION properties in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York are the only ones in the US.

There are 172 rooms and 37 residences in the edition. There will be hotel rooms on the first 10 floors of the property, followed by residences on the top floor. A signature restaurant, rooftop bar, and terrace will be part of the food and beverage offerings at the EDITION. There will also be a pool. The hotel is part of a multi-billion dollar project.

The hotel will be open in a few weeks, but pictures of the property are limited at this time. There are some sketches. I don't understand how hotels can sell rooms without showing pictures of the rooms, giving room dimensions, etc.

Tampa EDITION rates & how to book

I wanted to know what the rates would be at the first five star hotel in the city. The pricing is higher than I anticipated, but I think rates will come down over time.

Marriott Bonvoy has dynamic award pricing that changes by the night. You get a fifth night free on award redemptions if you accumulate 100,000 points a night. Bonvoy points are priced at 0.7 cents per point.

Tampa EDITION points pricing

The cash rates at the EDITION can be as high as $700 per night at times.

Tampa EDITION cash pricing

You can receive complimentary breakfast, a $100 property credit, a room upgrade, early check-in and late check-out if you book through the Marriott STARS program. You have to pay whatever the regular rate is for this on cash stays.

The prices seem steep to me. Since there isn't a five star hotel in the area, there's not much to compare this to. We have seen outrageously high hotel prices in Florida during the Pandemic, so I will be watching to see how this changes.

I didn't think the city would have an EDITION. The EDITION brand didn't exist when I was a kid.

As of September 2022, the hotel will accept reservations for stays. I am looking forward to checking out this hotel in the not too distant future, I hope pricing becomes a bit more reasonable.
