T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert and SpaceX founder Elon Musk announce partnership plans on Aug. 25, 2022.T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert and SpaceX founder Elon Musk announce partnership plans on Aug. 25, 2022.

Musk and Sievert said that their companies are working to end mobile dead zones and will launch a new mobile service.

Starlink is a network of satellites that is designed to deliver high-speed internet in remote locations. This network has been supported by more than 2,500 satellites.

According to Sievert, T-Mobile will be dedicating a portion of its PCS spectrum to be integrated into Starlink satellites.

From remote points in the lower 48 states, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, T-Mobile users will be able to use messaging and other applications.

The service will eventually work with voice. The service will be included in T-Mobile's most popular plans.

The service will work with Starlink's second generation satellites, which have large antennae and can transmit directly to a cell or mobile phone.

Mobile users won't have to buy a new phone. Even if all the cell towers are taken out, the planned service should work.

Musk said, "This won't have the kind of bandwidth a Starlink terminal will have, but this will enable texting, it will enable images and if there aren't too many people in the cell zone, you can potentially have a little bit of video." We will no longer read about tragedies where people got lost if they would have called for help.

Visitors to the US from outside the country will be able to use T-Mobile's "reciprocal roaming" service if they partner with the company. Carriers were invited to join the alliance.

After hours, shares of T-Mobile were up by a point and were moving higher.

Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a note this week that they expect T-Mobile to continue to take share, driving superior top- and bottom-line growth, and they expect the company to buy back stock.
