Frustrated with his lack of opportunities, New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims told the team Thursday that he wants to be traded.

It had been going on for a while. The agent for Mims met with the general manager. Sources said that Mims had strong feelings for his coach.

Slavin said it was just time. enzel does not have a future with the Jets and he has tried in good faith. He worked very hard in the off-season to make sure he came back better than ever. He hasn't had a lot of time to get to know the starting offense.

The Jets have repeatedly told us that they will not be releasing him, so a trade is our only option. We are confident that Joe Douglas will find a new home where he can be a part of.

The Jets have had a rough run.

Mims was a member of the previous coaching staff, but he has been on the bench. He has battled illnesses and injuries, but he hasn't been embraced by the current staff, which wanted him to improve his grasp of the playbook

He had eight catches for 133 yards in 11 games a year ago. He hasn't scored a touchdown in the National Football League. He has been demoted to second- and third-team duty despite coming to training camp with a renewed commitment.

Mims was one of seven players to get in the game. He is tied for the team lead in preseason catches with five, but he has a drop and a pre-snap penalty.

Mims said recently that it's up to them if they want to play him or not. I show what I can do on a daily basis. I'll continue to do that.

Mims is no better than sixth on the depth chart, even though he is a lot farther along than a year ago. A group of strong special teams players are ahead of him.

The Jets have used a first-round pick on Wilson and a second-round pick on Moore since they drafted Mims. The Jets never expressed a willingness to trade Mims, despite the fact that teams have expressed interest in him over the last year. It might change now.
