Travelers use the internet to find cheaper hotel rates.

It may not be worth it in some places.

InsureMyTrip compared rates for 950 hotels in 19 global cities on three popular booking websites as well as each hotel's website.

Hotels.com had the best rates according to the results.

Hotels.com had the best rates in more than 500 instances, which was slightly higher than the lowest rates on the internet.

Booking directly with a hotel was more expensive, but less so on average.

The director of marketing at India's Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru said that people think booking through online travel platforms ensured a better rate than the hotel website. Rates are not taken very seriously at Four Seasons.

The hotels website has a pop-up function which compares rates offered by the hotel with those on other booking platforms

Booking.com had the lowest rates in 72 instances, or about 7 percent of the time.

Booking.com was the most expensive option the majority of the time.

The company wants to always be transparent with their customers and that their property partners are free to set their own prices on Booking.com, according to the Managing Director for Asia Pacific.

Booking.com will refund the difference if a customer finds a cheaper price on another website.

In seven of 19 cities, the average hotel rate on Hotels.com and Expedia was the same, with the average changing by just 27 cents.

The director of marketing for InsureMyTrip said thatExpedia and Hotels.com had the same prices.

The brands are owned by the same company that runs other travel booking websites.

Anna Brown is a company public relations manager. Rate differences can be created by various offers approved by our hotel partners.

Hotwire masks hotels' names prior to purchase in exchange for deep discounts on last-minute bookings, according to Brown.

Booking.com is a part of Booking holdings. According to the research company Statista, BookingHoldings had the highest revenue of all online travel agencies in the last two years.

Rate differences were shown in some cities. Travelers can save up to $88 per night in Honolulu if they find the lowest price.

The average hotel rate in New York was $367 on Booking.com.

The study found more than one thing.

  • Hotels.com had the cheapest rates in New York City 62% of the time.
  • Expedia had the cheapest rates in Honolulu 62% of the time and Boston 66% of the time.
  • Direct hotel bookings were cheapest in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

Rate fluctuations were not as pronounced outside of the US.

In Hong Kong, Bangkok, Macau, Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul, the posted rates were less than $10 a night.

The study by InsureMyTrip looked at the rates for a double room for two people booked for the night of August 27th, 2022, to see what the future might hold.

Prices can change quickly and without warning so all searches were done on the same day.

Not all hotels or booking sites include the same extras in the final price.

The study didn't take into account whether the rates were included or not.

She said that the price seen on the sites was the final cost. Not all hotels and booking sites include the same extras in the final price.

The hotel price comparison process is complicated by other factors such as prepayment requirements and breakfast inclusions.
