A Georgia prosecutor is seeking testimony from President Donald Trump's onetime chief of staff MarkMeadows and attorney SidneyPowell before a Georgia grand jury investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The Fulton County District Attorney asked a court Thursday to certify that testimony is needed from the three witnesses in order to force them to travel to Georgia.
According to the district attorney's office, it asked the man to testify because he sent emails and participated in meetings related to Trump's post- election strategy.
Powell was asked to testify because Trump considered appointing her special counsel to look into voter fraud allegations and because she tried to copy voting machine data from Georgia.
He helped circulate a Powerpoint detailing baseless voter fraud theories and laid out plans to contest the results of the election when he testified before the Georgia Legislature.
The three Trump allies were asked to give testimony.
Forbes reached out to Powell and the attorneys for the two men.
The Trump team is being investigated by a grand jury in Fulton County. The Trump-Raffensperger call, as well as a scheme in which several Georgia Republicans signed certificates stating that Trump won the state's electoral votes, are being looked into. Rudy Giuliani and the Republicans who signed fake elector certificates have been told they are targets of the investigation and could face criminal charges. Lindsey Graham was granted a reprieve last weekend while he fought his subpoena.
The special grand jury doesn't have the power to indict anyone, but it can make recommendations for a separate grand jury to indict.
