The civil lawsuit accuses Matt Araiza and two others of gang raping a 17-year-old girl.

Araiza was a star for the San Diego State Aztecs last season. Zavier Leonard, a redshirt freshman at San Diego State, is one of the men named in the complaint.

Araiza is accused of having sex with a high school senior outside at an off-campus party before taking her to a room where she was raped. According to the Times, the lawsuit states that the minor went into and out of consciousness but remembers the men attacking her.

Kerry Armstrong, Araiza's lawyer, told the Times that his investigator spoke to witnesses from the party who disagreed with the accusations.

He's with the Buffalo Bills and that's why it's a shakedown. I believe that Matt Araiza raped that girl.

The teen reported the rape to the San Diego police. The suspects have not been publicly identified, but detectives recently submitted their findings to the district attorney's office to determine if charges should be filed, according to the Times.

Dan Gilleon, the attorney who filed the lawsuit, said that it was a horrible crime. These crimes are different not only because they were committed by athletes, but also because they were done by other people. For months, multiple organizations, including the San Diego Police Department, the San Diego District Attorney, and now the Buffalo Bills, have acted as if my client deserves no justice at all.

Araiza was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round of the NFL draft. He was named the starter on Monday over Haack.

The Bills said that they were recently made aware of a civil complaint. The matter was thoroughly examined due to the seriousness of the complaint. We don't have anything else to say at this point as this is a civil case.
