The police in Rome received a call at 3 a.m. on Thursday about a man possibly shooting his family and then himself at the lawmaker's house.

The Rome Police Department described the incident as "swatting," a dangerous practice in which a prank caller falsely reports a violent crime to police with the intent of getting law enforcement to rush into a victim's home.

The fake shooting report was made using a virtual private network, so the caller's location is unclear, and the caller said someone came out as trans.

Early Wednesday, Rome police said they responded to a fake report about a person being shot multiple times at her house, and later got another call from the suspect, who claimed to be upset about Mrs.

Her office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes, but she confirmed she was "swatted again last night."

Key Background

Since entering Congress last year, she has drawn a lot of attention for her stance on various issues. She referred to her daughter as her biological son and posted a sign outside of her office that said there were two genders. She was criticized for making voter fraud allegations, arguing with Democratic lawmakers, and supporting the bizarre QAnon conspiracy theory.

swatting is a waste of police time and resources. Statistics on swatting incidents are limited but the practice has drawn attention in the past. Three years ago, a California man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for making a false report of a hostage situation that led to the death of an innocent man in Kansas and the death of a man in Tennessee. The FBI has documented swatting incidents for over a decade, some of which involve prank callers who take steps to hide their identities
