According to a new poll, half of voters think that former President Donald Trump should be charged with a crime.
Democrats were more likely than Republicans to say that Trump should be charged. A majority of Democrats told the polling service that Trump should be charged.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the FBI raided Trump's Florida home on August 8, taking many boxes of government documents, some of which have been deemed as top secret. According to the Washington Post, the FBI was looking for documents related to nuclear weapons.
If the documents taken from his residence were related to nuclear weaponry, a majority of registered voters would disapprove of Trump's actions.
Some registered voters thought the FBI search of Trump's home was politically motivated, while others thought it was a serious attempt to find out what actually happened. 42% of respondents said it was a serious attempt, compared to 38% who said it was politically motivated.
On Tuesday, a letter from the National Archives and Records Administration to Trump's attorney was published online and revealed that the agency received 15 boxes of missing presidential records that were located at Mar-A-Lago.
The agency was concerned about the handling of the documents being a national security risk, according to the letter.
"As the Department of Justice's National Security Division explained to you, there are important national security interests in the FBI and others in the intelligence community getting access to these materials," the letter said.
NARA's letter and the FBI's raid are just two of the times that Trump has taken heat for potentially mishandled documents. According to a new book by a New York Times reporter, the White House sometimes found printed paper in the toilets, leading some to believe that the president was the one who flushed the documents.
Some of Mr. Trump's aides were aware of his habit of tossing documents in the trash, but it wasn't widely known.
The FBI raided Trump's Mar-A-Lago property, but the president denied that he flushed documents down the toilet.
The YouGov poll had a margin of error of 3%.
