According to The Athletic's Lindsey Adler, the Yankees are likely to place starting pitcher Nestor Cortes on the injured list with a groin injury.

Reliever Greg Weissert will be taking the place of Cortes on the active roster.

The Bronx Bombers are in a bad place.

The team's three-game winning streak is raising hope that the slide is over. Without one of the Yankees' best starting pitchers, it will have to continue for the next week.

Through 23 starts, Cortes is 9-4 with a 2.68 earned run average and a 3.41 FIP, and he's second in WAR behind Gerrit Cole.

The New York Yankees will have plenty of time to recuperate before the playoffs as their regular season ends in October.

There is a dilemma with the starting rotation for the time being. Cole, German, Montas and Taillon are the healthiest of the four.

Maybe New York will use an opener instead of a replacement. In the team's 2-1 win over the Rays on June 16th, the team's starting pitcher, Clarke Schmidt, gave up two runs in the third.

Brian Cashman might want to take a lesson from the Harrison Bader trade. If he still wore pinstripes, Jordan Montgomery would be in the rotation.
