George Kirby threw 24 straight strikes to start the game, but it wasn't enough as the SeattleMariners lost to the Washington Nationals.

Kirby threw his first ball to Joey Meneses in the third. Kirby is the first pitcher since 1988 to start his appearance with at least 24 consecutive strikes.

Kirby, who was Seattle's first-round draft pick in 2015, made his major league debut in May.

Kirby and Rodriguez both became the first rookies in Seattle history to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season. The 21-year-old sensation who put on quite a show at the All-Star Home Run Derby also became the fourth rookies in American League history to do it. A lot of people don't do it often.

Rodriguez is the leader in home runs and stolen bases.

Seattle won three of four this year after sweeping Washington in a twin bill July 13th. While the Nationals have the worst record in the majors, they still hold the third and final spot in the playoffs.
