Jon Moxley Defeats CM Punk in AEW World Title Unification Match on Dynamite

Jon Moxley became the first two-time AEW world champion when he defeated CM Punk in an AEW World Championship unification match.

Punk hit Moxley with a roundhouse kick and appeared to re-injure his foot.

In this match, Moxley dominated Punk. He won the title and the belt with a shift.

Punk had to be helped to the back as Moxley celebrated in the crowd.

At Double or Nothing in May, Punk defeated "Hangman" Adam Page for the AEW world title. Punk took some time off after he injured himself during or after the match.

Five days after Double or Nothing, Punk announced he was going on the shelf, but he noted that AEW president Tony Khan wouldn't allow him to take the AEW World Championship. An interim champion would be decided.

The winner of the battleroyal will face Moxley in the main event. Kyle O'Reilly was the victor in the battle royal.

The winner of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling match would face the loser of the Moxley match for the interim world title.

Moxley added an interim AEW world title to his resume after defeating Goto at Forbidden Door, despite the fact that Tanahashi had defeated Goto.

Moxley placed the interim title on the line against Chris Jericho, who was the wrestler he defeated to win the Aew World Championship in 2020.
