Black Adam is the only new movie this year. Warner Bros. moved the release date of the movie to March 17, 2023 from December 22, 2022. James Wan has more time to finish his visual effects after the project was pushed back.
The remake of House Party will be in theaters on December 9th, and the Evil Dead sequel will be in theaters on April 21st. The new update of Stephen King's Salem's Lot was moved from April 21, 2023 to a later date.
The news of the shuffle was broken by Deadline and it is bad news. We will have to wait three more months for the movie. That's terrible. It is thought to be good news in a business sense. The Batman's March release proved that any time is a good time for a big superhero movie, even if it is against a sequel. It makes sense that the sequel would be even bigger than the first one since it was a massive visual effects undertaking. The extra months will only make the movie better. We think there will be more speculation about Heard's involvement. There is symmetry in the fact that the original was a holiday release.
The Batgirl situation is not the same as that of the HBO Max titles. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are the producers of Evil Dead Rise, which tells the story of two sisters who fight demons in the big city. It should be easy for the company to hit in a month with no horror. The same for the house party in December.
Warner Bros. can't hide release dates in a time when the film has come under scrutiny. There is confidence when you put a movie on a date. Delays can be seen as a negative, but these moves seem to be encouraging.
