The New Orleans Saints quarterback said the foot injury that kept him out of the first two preseason games is getting better every day, and he doesn't think it's a big deal.
Since the injury occurred during a practice, Winston has been a full participant in practice. His teammates held their breath as he popped back up after attempting a slide.
He said that it felt good on Tuesday. I could run a bit more. That is part of my game.
After returning to the field to do some work, his progression occurred quickly. He added full-team drills the next day after progressing to 7-on-7.
The Saints were cautious with this injury because he was already back from the left knee injury. He said that the team didn't want him to overcompensate for the foot injury and that he trusts his knee.
He said that "rest is a big part of recovery and healing, so I can be fully prepared."
Saints coach Dennis Allen wouldn't say who would play or who would sit for Friday's preseason finale against the Bolts. He will be ready to return to the field if he gets the okay. The other two preseason games were played in his place.
He would like to play. If I can get out there and compete with the guys, that would be great." I like the preseason because it gives me a chance to look in everybody's eyes, dap everybody up and really get that whole team bonding part in the beginning of the game. One of my favorite parts of football is the pre- battle moment.
