The team said that Johnson has a torn Achilles.

Ian Rapoport stated that Johnson will not play this season.

During Wednesday's practice, Johnson had to be carted off the field. He was supposed to make the team's roster after a good training camp.

In the team's preseason opener against New England, Johnson hauled in a team-high seven catches for 82 yards, including a 41-yard reception.

His production caught the attention of Brian Daboll, who told reporters Monday that both he and David Sills were in the mix to make the roster.

The guys that have been out there are stepping up their game. They are in the mix because they want to play. Everybody has to earn their job, earn their role, do a good job of the things they need to do, and make the most of their opportunities when they are given them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Johnson in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He caught 18 passes for 272 yards and two touchdown in 14 games for the team as a first year player.

He was picked up by the Giants after being cut by the Jags. He threw 11 passes for 105 yards and 21 targets in 15 games.

Johnson told reporters last week that he was looking forward to the 2022.

Not everything works out in your favor. At the end of the day, I feel like a lot of people try to put periods in when they shouldn't. When I was cut from the Jags, I didn't have a "woe is me" mentality, but there is a lot more that is being written now. I feel like I'm getting started and I'm going to keep working hard.

With Johnson out, C.J. Board and Wan' Dale Robinson should get more playing time against the Jets. They could get more playing time during the season.

The Giants' receiving group will include Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney andSterling Shepard.
