Carol Hutchins is the sport's all-time leader in career victories.

She has a record of 1,607-555-5. The program's first championship in 2005 was won by Hutchins, who had never lost a season.

After graduating from Michigan State, Hutchins joined the Michigan team as an assistant coach. Two years later, she was the head coach.

She was a part of the team that won 22 Big Ten regular-season titles.

Hutchins was called a legend by the Michigan athletic director.

Hutchins said she would always bleed blue.

She said she is most thankful for the relationships she has had. The competition in softball has made it one of the best sports in college athletics. I would like to thank everyone who has ever worked in a support role for Michigan softball, from our athletic trainers and strength coaches to academic counselors, equipment managers, field crew, and the list goes on. They have made a huge contribution to our success. I would like to thank the staffs that served Michigan with me over the course of many years, but in particular my long time assistant coaches, Bonnie and Jen Brundage. I share all of my success with them.

The announcement didn't say who Hutchins' replacement would be.
