Remember when John was found dead in an apparent suicide? One of his exes claimed that it was a fake.
According to the new documentary "Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee," the fugitive tech mogul called his ex-lover after he was reported to have killed himself.
After his death, I got a call from Texas, but I don't know if I should say anything. People pretended that I was dead, but I am alive.
There are only three people in this world that know that I'm still alive.
This is almost certainly shenanigans. It's possible that she's the victim of a hoax, that she's making stuff up for publicity, or something else. It is very, very unlikely that he is still alive.
The claims are notable, though, because the pair were together in her native Belize in 2012 when Gregory Faull was murdered execution style after fighting with the antivirus pioneer over his dogs.
She went on the lam with him when authorities began looking for him for questioning in the Florida-born Faull's murder, though he claimed in the documentary footage that he was actually running from the prime minister of the country.
The man's side of the story is that they're after him because he didn't pay off the government. They wanted to kill him.
The New York Post notes in a summary of the documentary that Herrara got her big-time lawyer relative Telésforo Guerra to defend her notorious American boyfriend, and that he was at his side when he had a heart attack.
When the pair relocated to the United States, however, he broke things off with her and married a woman who believes he was murdered.
Charlie Russell, the director of the documentary, said in an interview that he can't make up his mind about whether or not she called after he died.
Russell doesn't know what he thinks and he doesn't think she does. I don't know if she thinks it's real or not after she says it.
The whole story sounds too crazy to be true, but the rest of the fugitive's life did the same thing.
