The new series of drives are called the 990 Pro series. According to the company, the SSDs will reach the highest speeds that are theoretically possible from the interface. The company hopes to deliver better performance for PC and console games.
The 990 Pro has sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and 6, 900 MB/s. The 980 Pro has up to 7,000 MB/s and 5, 100 MB/s read and write speeds. The random read and write speeds of the 980 Pro are up to 1,400K and 1,550K, respectively. It marks a 55 percent improvement over the 980 Pro.
The company says the 990 Pro will be more power efficient than before. There is a heat spreader label for reliable thermal management and a nickel coating on the controller. The drive's temperature is kept in the optimal range thanks to the Dynamic Thermal Guard tech. If you're going to plug the 990 Pro into a PS5 you'll need a version with a heatsink that has extra thermal control.
One of our favorites is the 980 Pro, and I have had no complaints about it. The zippier speeds and greater power efficiency of the 990 Pro are what I hope will make it better. The 990 Pro series will be sold by SAMSUNG. The price for a 1 tb and 2 tb version is $299 and $299, respectively. Next year, the company is planning to offer a 4 terabytes variant.
