Dozens of high-water rescues took place this week in the area of Dallas, Texas, as a result of the flooding.
Firefighters rescue people from flooded homes and people escape and swim away from flooded vehicles. At least one person is dead after their vehicle was swept away by flood waters.
The Dallas area saw more than 10 inches of rain on Monday and more than 100 homes have been damaged. The city said in a release that sanitary sewer overflows were caused by the flooding.
Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent as the climate changes. Climate change can cause more short and intense rain.
A disaster declaration was signed by the governor on Tuesday for 23 counties. The situation in Dallas was the worst on record. The Dallas area was under a flood warning from the National Weather Service.
