The postal service carrier was attacked and killed by five dogs when her vehicle broke down.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a news conference that Pamela Jane Rock died in the hospital Monday, a day after she was viciously attacked by dogs.
Putnam County Sheriff's spokesman Joseph Wells said at the news conference that a neighbor tried to disrupt the attack by shooting his gun in the air. That wasn't successful.
The city of Palatka is 45 miles from Jacksonville.
When police arrived at the scene on Sunday, they found the dogs behind a fence and Rock bleeding, so they applied several tourniquets to her blood loss. The woman went into cardiopulmonary arrest on the way to the hospital. The next day, she died from her injuries.
If owners fail to exercise caution with their dogs, they may be held liable. The owner cooperated with previous calls to animal control after the dogs escaped.
