Fans of the game speculated that one of the faces in the new game might identify as non-binary following the Nintendo Direct that showed off what to expect. We asked Nintendo's VP of development and publishing, who identified as female, if he was correct. She/her pronouns are used in the game even though they weren't mentioned in the direct.

There were some convincing clues to go off from the video showcase that viewers were hoping to see. The Deep Cut hype group is made up of a lot of purple, yellow, black, and white. The publication speculated that the group said together, "We're not supposed to be anything."

It could be seen as a small sign of progress in gender inclusivity that the character creator doesn't offer "boy" and "girl" as the only options in the game. You can choose between masculine and feminine styles of inkling in the game.

There is a chance that Nintendo could introduce a non-binary character later. The company is committed to delivering new content in the future, including paid story DLC that could be comparable in scope to the previous game. I am not holding my breath because of how it read the room here.

On September 9th, there will be a release for the Nintendo Switch.
