Thousands of Facebook users around the world reported issues with their news feeds on Wednesday as a glitch appeared to boost posts to celebrity fanpages and groups to the top of timelines.

Downdetector, a website which monitors online problems, received a lot of reports about a Facebook "outage".

The glitch was mocked by many users.

The company's parent company Meta was aware of the problem.

The firm was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and they apologized for any hassle.

A total of 81% of the reports received by DownDetector flagged issues with Facebook feeds, and the rest highlighted the app or website.

The posts on the celebrity pages and groups were chronological.

The meme was posted to popular Facebook fan pages to make fun of the error on the social network. Others used the opportunity to raise money

Concerns over the unavailability of content posted by friends and family, usually present for users at the top of their main feed, caused many to wonder if Facebook had been hacked or flooded with junk mail.

The Facebook feeds appeared to be back to normal.

The fear of a Facebook outage has become more common since last October.

Changes to Facebook feeds were announced by Meta.

The new options to personalize feeds were presented in a separate tab on the mobile version of Facebook.

Meta has faced criticism over changes to its social media sites designed to help it compete with TikTok.

The new news feed on Facebook gives users more control over what they see and discover, as well as allowing them to create reels from its home page.
