After winning the state's primary race on Tuesday, Rep. Charlie Crist called on voters to help him get rid of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Crist, who served as Florida's governor from 2006 to 2011, was the winner of this year's nomination with 59.7% of the votes compared to Fried's 35.3%.
Crist said that he will go head-to-head with Ron DeSantis in the fall. I'm grateful that the people of Florida showed up to defend their rights. Let's get rid of the man.
A continuation of his push to rally voters under the same cause is signaled by Crist's tweet. Although he has been mentioned as a contender for the Republican presidential nomination, Ron DeSantis hasn't decided if he's going to run for president.
Crist promised during his victory speech that he would stamp out the "wannabe dictator" hopes of DeSantis.
A 15-week abortion ban that Crist says he will overturn on his first day in office is one of the policies that his campaign has used to criticize.
There is a law that limits teachers' instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten until the 3rd grade. A law was signed dissolving Disney World's self-governing status after the company said it would fight the policy.
Crist said in his victory speech that fundamental freedoms are on the ballot. There's a woman's right to vote. There is a vote on democracy. This ballot has your rights on it.
"That's what's at stake in this election, because this guy wants to be president of the United States of America and everyone knows it," he said.
Fried would have been the first woman governor of Florida. She criticized Crist for changing parties and said she was something new for the state. Crist ran as an independent in 2010 after leaving the GOP. He joined a political party.
Fried echoed Crist's words in her concession speech.
She said they were going to make Ron DeSantis a one-term governor and a zero-term president.
