Daniel Goldman, who served as the lead counsel in the Democrats' first impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump, claimed a narrow victory in a crowded Democratic primary for a newly carved house seat in New York City.
Goldman defeated several progressive candidates in New York's 10th Congressional District, which covers Manhattan's financial district and part of Queens.
Goldman beat out Niou by two points and Jones by seven points to win the vote.
After giving up his suburban New York seat, Jones joined the crowded race for Congress.
Niou did not concede on Tuesday.
Goldman will get a victory in the election.
Goldman told his supporters before the result was called that it was not a victory for him or anyone else.
Goldman was called "honorable, fair, and highly intelligent" by Trump in a bizarre post on his Truth Social platform. Goldman accused the former president of trying to meddle in the race by endorsing him. Goldman's team said: "This is a pathetic attempt at fooling Democrats who are far smarter than Trump is and it's clear that only one candidate in NY 10 is living rent free in Trump's head." Don't let Donald get in the way. Dan is going to come for you.
On Tuesday, the Democratic primary for the other newly carved congressional district in Manhattan was won by Rep. Jerry Nadler. Nadler defeated his fellow democrat by a huge margin. After the New York Supreme Court blocked a congressional map drawn by Democrats, Nadler and Maloney had to face off. The maps were ordered to be redrawn by the top court.
