Correa breaks up no-hitter against former team (0:45)

The Twins got their first hit of the night in the seventh when Carlos Correa hit a ball to left field. There is a time and a place for this.

Three special guests were cheering for Yordan Alvarez when he came up to the plate in the first.

After arriving from Cuba, his father, mother, and brother all wore the same jersey as they watched him play for the Astros.

"This is one of the most important moments in my life," his father said through an interpreter. There are no words to express what I'm feeling at the moment.

The son hit an early single against the Twins.

It took a long time and a lot of obstacles to get to Minute Maid Park to watch Alvarez for the first time.

The process to get here was lengthy. We've had a lot of challenges to get here.

The family didn't give up hope that their son would play in the majors. On Friday, they arrived.

His father said that they never thought they would not be able to be here. In order to make things happen, we have to confront difficulties.

When he heard that his family would finally be watching him play, he responded by saying that he wanted to play.

We were all waiting for this moment to come and he was happy and excited.

After defecting from Cuba in 2016 and establishing a residence in Haiti, he signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent. He was sent to the Astros in August. He won the American League's rookies of the year after making his MLB debut.

"It never crossed our minds that we were not going to be able to be here," Agustín Eduardo Álvarez Salazar told the AP. "We know that in order to make things happen we have to confront difficulties and that's why we're here today." David J. Phillip/AP

His parents missed both of his trips to the World Series. They haven't seen him in person in over two years.

They didn't have a lot of concerns because they knew there was an entire community watching their son.

Houston has adopted Yordan as their own child. That makes us feel safe and peaceful. I am happy for that.

His father was happy to see his son hit a home run. The whole night was too much for his mom.

When she heard that he'd hit a home run for her on her birthday, she cried and wiped away tears as they streamed down her face.

His mom said she was proud. This is a feeling that only a mother knows. I don't know what to say about what I'm feeling at the moment.

It was easy to see how proud his parents were of their son, who was tied for third in the majors with 31 homers. Although they're thrilled with his success on the field, they're also excited for who he is off it.

The human being that he has become is the first thing that makes us proud. We have seen the talent that he has, but we have never thought about how far he has come. We just want God to bless him and keep his health.

The family is staying with the man. They don't know how long they'll last. They're soaking up all the time.

When asked what the long-awaited night meant to them, both mother and father said the same thing.

They spoke in Spanish.

A dream becomes a reality.
