The opening game of the new Mission Valley campus of San Diego State University will break the previous record for a stand-alone game of 25,218, set in 2019.
The goal is to sell out over 30,000.
Morgan said it was a testament to women's soccer in the U.S. and the NWSL.
"To see this number today, and knowing that we're going to get a sellout, it's just an incredible feeling, because this club set its mind on breaking the single- match attendance in league history." Now the goals don't stop for this club and I'm proud to be a part of that.
The Wave is in second place in the league table and level with the Houston Dash and Portland Thorns. Morgan leads the league with 12 goals.
It's difficult to exceed my expectations, but this club and this team have done that, and I'm very happy to be a part of it.
I think that my success on the field is due to the fact that I feel really settled in at home. It has been a great start for the club. Will we be able to sustain that and secure a spot in the playoffs?
Expansion sides have to contend with chemistry being an issue because players who are unfamiliar with one another are grouped together for the first time. The team did a good job during the Challenge Cup. The team's success was attributed to the efforts of the president, GM, manager, and support staff.
"It's a huge testament to the work that everyone does behind the scenes, making sure that players feel fit, rested, recovered and ready for each game on the weekend," Morgan said.
We are in our first season and a lot of these clubs are in their 10th. We have been able to put things together quickly.
What will happen on Sept. 17 is included. Morgan said she liked what she saw at the stadium and called it beautiful. The new venue at the University of San Diego will double as the team's home after the first season.
"Not often in my lengthy career have I been able to open a brand new stadium, and know that it's home to the San Diego Wave, that's home to a women's soccer team where week in and week out, fans show up and have fan celebrations around it I think it's going to bring fans back, because we're doing a lot to bring fans out.
