According to the Dodgers, Walker Buehler had Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and will be out for the rest of the season.
Buehler left the game on June 10 due to elbow pain. Dr. Neal ElAttrache was going to have surgery on his elbow on Tuesday to see if he needed a full reconstruction.
Buehler captioned the photo "Tommy John Round 2 let's roll" I'll see you when I seedodgers.
It will take Buehler more than a year to recover from the surgery again. The Dodgers drafted him with the 24th overall pick in the first round.
In the time since, he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball and a crucial part of the 2020 World Series championship team. Over 115 regular-season appearances, Buehler has a 3.02 ERA, 690 strikeouts and just 161 walks.
He had a bone spur removed from his elbow after he was shut down because of a flexor strain. The initial plan was for Buehler to recover in 10 to 12 weeks, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters last week that Buehler experienced unusual pain while playing catch, leading to the decision to shut him down.
