The Brooklyn Nets are trying to get back in the game.

Sean Marks, general manager of the Nets, said in a statement that the two-time NBA champion will remain with the team. The extension kicks in this season.

Marks said that he and Steve Nash met with Kevin and Rich in LA yesterday. We are moving forward with our partnership. We want to build a lasting franchise to bring a title to Brooklyn.

Where does the news leave the other players in the conference? Is the Nets the new favorites over the East teams?

KD, Kyrie and Brooklyn have a long way to go before the 2022-23 season.

The NBA Insiders are analyzing every twist in the summer saga of the Warriors and the Nets.

KD's decision affects the NBA power rankings.

1. What's your biggest takeaway from KD deciding to stay in Brooklyn?

The reality of the situation is recognized by Tim Bontemps. Four more years is how long the contract is for. Brooklyn doesn't want to be given what it wants. Either play or try to hold out was the choice that he had. This is the only way to go for both sides.

That was a lot of fun. I'm skeptical about the longevity of this partnership despite the fact that this outcome has been inevitable for a while. Kobe Bryant and the Lakers had a redemption story in 2007, but I don't think that's going to happen anymore.

The Boardroom logo is on the news release of the Nets. I have a question about how long this will last. They'll be able to rebuild their culture as training camp nears because they were a miserable team last season. It would be difficult.

The market didn't fit everyone's needs. Brooklyn was thought to be able to get a haul for one of the NBA's greatest players. Teams weren't willing to put their second best assets on the table to get KD.

Bobby Marks is not surprised. The trade package that the Nets were waiting for never materialized. There was a question as to whether or not he would hold out during training camp. Both sides stopped trade speculation.

2. Fill in the blank: The biggest loser in the Durant saga is _____?

There is a person named collier who talks about the person named durk. We don't see a lot of people walking back trade requests. During the past few years, when one of the game's great players has been at the top of his game, it would be great to see him compete for titles instead of being stuck in a rut. It feels like this is setting up more drama.

They called it Bontemps. I'm pretty sure he didn't think the Nets wouldn't get the kind of offers they needed. He didn't get what he wanted because his image took a hit. The Nets are a big winner for having him on the team.

Marks said the Eastern Conference champion. When the Celtics were linked to KD at the end of July, they weren't having a lot of activity. Boston has some control over the Jaylen Brown situation.

Lopez has Jaylen Brown and others. Everyone has to act like everything is fine after a number of players heard their names in trade talks. Having to hear your name thrown around for weeks could take a toll on your body.

Friedell was talking about the NBA off-season. Normally a quiet time in the sports calendar, the Nets gave a big boost. Two months of programming was carried around the league by the soap opera surrounding this team. All of the rumors and rumblings will be missed by the media.

3. Where do the Nets rank in the East heading into this season?

The Nets won 44 games last season and reached the first round of the playoffs despite the fact that James Harden and Ben Simmons weren't on the court. A healthy mix of Irving, Durant, and Simmons should be enough to challenge for home-court advantage in the playoffs, even if they don't win every game.

Assuming health for their key players and a drama-free run in the regular season, Friedell thinks the Nets are third right now. I have serious questions as to how long this will last before the next internal blowup and they have a core in place that has the ability to get better over time.

Bontemps is either third or fourth and is on par with Philadelphia. The Nets could win the East. It is possible. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered to put them above the two strong teams at the top of the conference.

I don't think the Nets will have a normal season with KD, Kyrie and Ben Simmons on the floor. They are a contender if they do.

The Nets should be in the top three in the east. Brooklyn should be on the outside of the top four when it comes to regular-season games. The Nets are too much of a wild card and should not be trusted to be conference favorites.

4. Fact or fiction: KD will spend all four years of his remaining contract as a Net

Lopez says it's fact. In Los Angeles in 2007, the Kobe Bryant situation was similar. Everyone tries to get on with their lives after the trade request is withdrawn. If change comes to Brooklyn, it seems like it will happen somewhere else on the roster or the coaching staff.

Who knows how this will play out. With all the drama in Brooklyn over the past few weeks, it is foolish to make any firm calls on how this will play out in the future.

There's a mark for fiction. If Brooklyn struggles this season, what will happen? We don't know if he's going to be in a Nets uniform next year.

Friedell is a fiction writer KD will be there for at least four more years. The bigger question is if he will be there for the entire season or if something will change his mind again.

There is a fiction by the name of collier. If you have said for four months, I wouldn't take that bet.

5. Fact or fiction: Kyrie Irving will be with the Nets after the 2023 trade deadline.

There's a mark that says "fact." Irving will be with Brooklyn in the middle of February. Will the Nets give Irving a four-year extension before the season ends?

On Wednesday, October 19th.

Knicks vs. Grizzlies, 7:30 p.m.
Mavericks vs Suns, 10 p.m.

The day of Friday, October 21.

Celtics vs. Heat, 7:30 p.m.
Nuggets vs Warriors, 10 p.m.

It's all times Eastern.

There is a fact. Irving will be on the roster this season. Back in June, there was a lot of chatter about Irving's status, but now he is locked in for the season.

There is a fiction by the name of collier. One will go and the other will follow. I don't know where Kyrie will be at any given moment.

Brooklyn doesn't have a lot of draft picks so it could wheel and deal with players to improve the roster. If Irving wants to leave Brooklyn, it makes sense to give him something to improve the situation.

Friedell doesn't know. It's not a good idea to chart Irving's professional course at this time. I would guess "fact" only because of the news, but everything can change in a second.
