The church and pastor apologized to Lin-Manuel Miranda and others involved with the production for the unauthorized production that took place on August 5 and 6.

As the production changed and added lyrics and dialogue to incorporate Christian themes, the church did not get permission to perform the show or alter it.

The church will pay damages for their actions, but did not say how much, and will destroy all video and photos of the production.

Hamilton will donate the damages it receives to the South Texas Equality Project, a local organization that supports the rights of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community, after the church's production of Hamilton included a sermon that described homosexuality as being a sin.

Miranda suggested on August 10 that the show would take legal action against the Texas production after he disowned it on social media.

The amount of the production requested in damages was not commented upon by Brown.

It is never permissible to alter an artistic work such as Hamilton without legal permission.

The production of Hamilton gained national attention after being broadcasted online. Brown previously told Forbes that the production sent a cease-and-desist letter to the church after learning of its first performance on August 5, as the show was unauthorized, but allowed its August 6 performance to proceed as long as there were no photos or video recordings of the show. Brown told the New York Times that the production was unaware of the anti-gay comments being made during the show's sermon. The church made a false claim during its service on August 7 that the show's legal team had given them permission to perform their version of Hamilton. Hamilton and other musicals that are currently running on Broadway don't grant licenses for amateur or regional productions of the show because it could affect the Broadway production's ticket sales by giving audiences a cheaper way to see it Even if the church received a license to perform, it would still need permission to alter the show's content.

The Texas church was not given permission to perform the musical.
