Pac-12 preview: New-look USC is back in contention (2:16)

Even if Utah is poised to repeat as conference champ, new arrivals Lincoln Riley andCaleb Williams have brought hype back to SoCal. The 125th Big Game is between the two teams. 2 minutes later.

Washington's starting quarterback will be Michael Penix Jr., who transferred from Indiana, according to the coach.

Penix won the job over two other people.

DeBoer and Penix have known each other since DeBoer was the quarterback coach at Indiana. Penix was coached by current Washington tight ends coach Nick SHERIDan.

According to DeBoer, Michael's had a great camp. Penix has a good familiarity with the offense. It has been enjoyable. He has had a full off season to work out and get stronger so that he can have a great season.

Penix joined the transfer portal in December. He was the starting quarterback for the Hoosiers for three seasons, but suffered season-ending injuries each year and was unable to remain on the field.

Penix separated his throwing shoulder after playing five games. He had a season in which he passed for 939 yards and scored 4 touchdown.

The Huskies went 4-7 last year. In 11 games he threw for 2,458 yards and 14 touchdown.

The season opener is against Kent State.

Over the last week and a half, DeBoer said his more spread-based offense has gotten better.

The offensive line starts it all. The run game continues to improve and our quarterback gets a little more time in the pocket because of that. They have gotten used to more space and spread sets.
