The built-in iPhone wallet app will be deleted in the next version of Apple's mobile operating system, according to code found by 9to5Mac and confirmed by a contributor to MacRumors.
The code suggests that the Wallet app will be removed from the App Store if someone tries to use Apple Pay on their phone.
The Wallet app can be hidden from view and removed from the Home Screen, but it can't be completely deleted.
Since there is no way to test if the Wallet app will be able to be deleted, it's possible Apple could change some things before the update sees a launch.
The home of Apple Card, as well as the home of Apple Pay, is located in the wallet app, which is a key iPhone app.
It's not clear why Apple would allow users to uninstall the Wallet app, but the company is facing a class action lawsuit accusing it of violating antitrust law by making Apple Pay the only available mobile wallet for tap-to-pay payments on iPhone
At some point in September, the iOS 16 update will be released along with the iPadOS 16.1 update. The launch of iPadOS 16 was delayed so that Apple could work on the Stage Manager feature.
