The live-action adaptation of Red Sonja, the sword-and-sorcery comic book character, has begun shooting. The role of the character is being played by the actress known for Revenge and Medici. Due to scheduling conflicts, Hannah John-Kamen was forced to back out of her role in the movie.
M.J.Bassett said in a press release that he wanted to make a Red Sonja movie since he was a teenager.
The main members of the cast are Draygan and Anneisia. The script was written by the two people who wrote it.
The creative team ishelmed by women and non-binary people, something to note since Bryan Singer was originally on the slate to direct. I'm hoping that the team of Bassett, Soloway, and Huo will be able to bring this character to life in a way that's different from what we're used to seeing.
Red Sonja is currently in production in Europe, so it's possible that it will be released in a couple of years.
