In the cargo industry, everything is new again. Insider reported this week that a few companies are abandoning expensive cargo vessels that use fossil fuels and replacing them with sailing vessels.

It is not for the enjoyment of it. Natural gas and oil prices have gone up as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and S&P Global Platts estimates that maritime shipping is responsible for 2 to 3 percent of the world's carbon dioxide emissions.

Serge Picard told the pub that they used to pay between seven and 10 cents to ship a pound of coffee. The price of shipping by container quintupled for a good period of time. It is slowly coming back down but it is more expensive and takes more time to ship.

Cafe William is working with a company called SailCargo. There are two eco-friendly ships that SailCargo has commissioned, but they aren't like the kind of ships that were built in the 19th century.

The Ceiba has three sails and an electric engine. Ceiba's engine can be charged with solar panels or with energy created by the ship's propellor during its travels and it can transport up to 250 tons of product.
