Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah lost complete access to the movie they had worked on after Warner Bros. Discovery canceled their film late in production. Fallah tried to record some of the footage on their phone after learning that the film would not be moving forward. The people who worked on the movie have nothing to show for it because the server that contained the work was already locked away.
The studio blocked their access to the production's server when they asked if they still had some footage of the film. We don't have anything. Adil told me to shoot some things on the phone. Fallah said that everything was blocked on the server.
The decision about Batgirl's cancelation was made because of a changing management strategy and not because of the talent or the progress of the movie, according to El Arbi. Even if they had gotten the footage off the server, they wouldn't have been able to create a film in line with what they've finished so far.
Fallah said that he couldn't believe it was happening. At $90 million spent on the film, canceling the remaining production to save money feels short-sighted. We hope that one day the film will be finished and released.
