College football coaches are benefiting from the spending frenzy in the sport.

Alabama's board of trustees approved a new eight-year contract for head coach Nick Saban. He will be the highest paid college football coach in the country.

The $75 million guaranteed for Jimbo Fisher by Texas A&M was a sign of where the coach's salary would go.

Mel Tucker had a 10-year extension with Michigan State. Traditional blue bloods have the deepest pockets, so they don't need expensive deals.

With Ferentz's pay going to $7 million, there are now 12 public-school FB head coaches set to make at least $7 million for 2022 season; USC's Lincoln Riley & Miami's Mario Cristobal also likely at that level.

The domino effect for coaches already signed to lucrative contracts would be there.

Ryan Day's earnings increased from $8.6 million to $9.3 million. Kirby Smart got $112 million over the course of 10 years from Georgia.

It was likely that he would do the same.

So .... Georgia winning the national championship and netting Kirby a richer contract helped earn Nick Saban a raise?

Genius. https://t.co/UgmdI1hCr2

The greatest college football coach of all time is 70 years old. In the last seven years, he has led Alabama to the College Football Playoff National Championship game. In the last five years, the Tide haven't lost more than two games.

After two years, he returned to college. There is no other program that can match what he has at Alabama.

Tuesday's news showed how much leverage he had when it came to trying to get a pay raise.
