Each episode of House of the Dragon will feature the Most Valuable Player in the game before the Game of Throne.
The first episode of House of the Dragon, "The Heirs of the Dragon," does an admirable job of setting up the Targaryen family conflicts that will eventually explode into a civil war. King Viserys is a male heir and took over the throne from Princess Rhaenys, who was a female heir. After not having a male heir of his own, King Viserys decided to name his daughter Princess Rhaenyra, the heir to the Iron Throne.
The Dance of the Dragons focuses a lot on the people who survive the conflict. A lesser-known and shorter-lived character is the focus of the first episode. She wants to be the season's firstMVP.
The source material for the House of the Dragon is unimportant in Fire and Blood. She failed to produce a male heir for Viserys. She wasn't mentioned again after she died during labor.
House of the Dragon gives Queen Aemma a voice and emphasizes her importance in both the show and her family. After the opening sequence, Princess Rhaenyra visits her mother and points out that all of the queen's attendants are focused on the male heir instead of her.

There is an awareness of her role that could come across as naive and complacent. Her later scenes show that she is more aware than she thinks.
Aemma doesn't waste time telling Viserys that this "miserable" pregnant woman will be her last. She doesn't want to be put in a position to fail again because she doesn't feel like she produced a male heir. She is betting on Viserys's love for his wife and queen to keep her alive. That turned out to be a big mistake.
Viserys betrayed Aemma and allowed the maesters to perform surgery on her without anesthesia in order to get the heir. Her final moments were filled with unbelievable agony because of his decision. Aemma's confusion became terror and anger as she realized what was happening. She fights against her husband until she can no longer fight, so Viserys never forgets what he did to her.
King Viserys gives the title of heir to Princess Rhaenyra in the final moments of the show.
He believes that you could be a great ruling queen because of your mother.
