  • Google appears to be working on a backup solution for Wear OS.
  • This long overdue feature will let you back up your Wear OS data when pairing a smartwatch with a new phone.
  • You'll presumably be able to restore smartwatch data through Google One.

One of the drawbacks of Wear OS is that it doesn't have a backup feature if you want to switch to a new phone.

An upcoming option to back up your Wear OS data is suggested by lines of code found in the Google Play Services app forANDROID. The feature is likely to be opt in.

You only have one annoying option to pair your existing timepiece with a new device. If you frequently upgrade to a new phone, you need to reset your watch and start all over again. It's been a problem with Wear OS watches for a long time, and it's surprising that it hasn't been fixed sooner.

It's possible to back up and restore your data to your new device if you own any of the bestSamsung watches. It's useful when buying a new phone or if you misplace your device. Many of the best Wear OS watches are getting their own companion apps so this shouldn't be a problem.

Pairing your Wear OS device with a new phone will be easier if the backup solution makes it to a public release. You will need to pay an additional fee if your data is backed up to your account.

It's worth pointing out that the release of a feature is not guaranteed because of the in-development capabilities revealed in the APK teardown. There's a chance that this option will be abandoned at any moment.
