Confederate statue is bulldozed as mayor livestreams it, video shows. ‘Not in my town’

A bulldozer pushed down a Confederate monument in North Carolina.

The mayor of North Carolina took to Facebook to share a live stream of the destruction of a Confederate monument in the town.

The town of Enfield is located 70 miles northeast of Raleigh. The statue was removed by the town's board of Commissioners at an August meeting.

The Veterans Memorial was dedicated in the 1920s. The Confederate flag carved into the marble of the 10-foot statue was originally built as a memorial to Confederate and World War I soldiers.

Veterans who fought in World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War are remembered on the statue.

Robinson said that the initial purpose of the monument was to honor Confederate soldiers.

It isn't a monument for every veteran. Robinson said that it was put up in the 1920's. When that statue was put up, there hadn't been a single war. The statue was made for the Confederates. It was engraved on the back of it. There isn't a plaque about the Confederacy. The soldiers who fought on the side of enslavement were honored.

A number of Confederate statues have been removed or destroyed around the state and nation.

The committee of volunteers suggested that Fort Bragg be renamed to Fort Liberty.

In June, the Country Music Association banned Confederate flags from its festival, joining a growing list of similar events that have banned the flag.

Robinson said in another post that the remnants of the statue were secured with police tape as of Monday morning.

The United States of America's flag is the only flag that flies in this park. You are also living in a time that is the wrong side of history if that is too hard for you. Black lives are not respected by you. We do in this town. Robinson said we do.
